This project has been quite the time commitment, but we’ve enjoyed it throughout. It was well worth the long nights of editing until midnight. To think it has come to a close is amazing, time went by so fast. We are incredibly grateful to have had the opportunity to be part of this senior project. This is a subject matter that means a lot to us, especially as young women ourselves. We as two friends have always bonded over movies and love to connect it to feminism. Because we’re very passionate about this it was a very interesting experience. We got to do something fun together and we’ve learned so much.
This project was not only a great excuse to watch movies, but it pushed us to go beyond that. We did a lot of research for each film, and learning about the time periods was just as interesting as analyzing the movies. Seeing the evolution of women’s rights between each decade was truly remarkable. Just looking between the content of our earlier posts to our latest posts is something huge in and of itself. In a movie like Cinderella or Rear Window the times were different. Women were definitely getting their foot in the door, but they weren’t truly standing up for themselves. They did let themselves get pushed around and men were the dominant presence. Fast forward to Thelma and Louise, and women are not taking crap from anybody. They are standing together and putting themselves first. In fact, they both give up love and guys for friendship and freedom. They found their happiness without a guy, which is actually something we discussed in our Working Girl post.
We are excited to continue this blog beyond the project and have many great ideas for the future. There are so many movie possibilities left to explore, and we want to expand into tv. We would like to thank Mrs. Wolfson and Dr. Shellito for pushing use to define exactly what this project would be and giving the forum of the senior project program. We would also like to thank Mrs. Karman for her time and thoughtful advising and feedback. She really pushed us to go farther with our content, which strengthened our blog. We are grateful to anyone who has been reading our posts and encourage everyone from a more critical viewpoint.
